On The Ranch

I enjoyed a busy day on this ranch in Wilton, California. Wilton is a small town south of Sacramento, in California's central valley. Sacramento is the capital city of California. There are many ranches, orchards and farms located in the central valley. I was surprised to see the variety of crops grown here. There are rice paddies, cotton fields, nut trees, strawberries, hay fields and much, much more.

I was out of bed, excited to start my day at sunrise. I watched the sky turn from night-time black to pink-purple-blue, as the sun rose.

This raptor was awake early, hunting for mice in the tall grass along the fence. Can you tell what kind of bird it is?

This herd of 'happy California cows' was grazing in the pasture. There are lots of cattle in California.

I think that this cow is cute! She kept watching me, I guess she thought I was cute too!

This animal followed me all over the ranch! Can you tell what it is? A goat or a sheep? It is a Barbados Sheep. They can run fast and jump high and their wool is more straight than curly.

I helped do the ranch chores. In the evening I fed the horses and the mules. This mule's name is 'Pistol' and he was very friendly. Look!, his ears are bigger than I am!

At the end of the day, I watched the sunset.

Next I will visit Coloma, California. The Gold Discovery town.

Good night friends......

Veterinary Hospital

Greetings to Mr. Stoecklin, Kayleigh W. and classmates!

My first day in California was very exciting. Kayleigh's nana, Dr. Kathy is a veterinarian and is very glad to have me visiting. I met everyone at the Veterinary Hospital and I was very helpful.

I helped Dr. Kathy look at some Xrays, they are called radiographs. These are bone pictures of a very nice dog who was limping. His back legs were sore. See if you can find the 3 little round, very white circles. This dog got in the way of a hunter shooting a pellet gun. He will be fine, and I hope he will be careful next time he is outside in the field.

I was able to watch a surgery on a pet dog. See his back paws peeking out? It was very interesting and I asked many questions. I had to sit very still so I wouldn't fall off of Dr. Kathy's shoulder.

Dr. Kathy and her husband Cowboy Jerry thought I looked very thin from my travels across the United States, from Illinois all the way to California, so they took me out to dinner. We ate at The Back-Forty B-B-Q Place. The food was very good but I didn't eat much. They thought I was very polite and well behaved.

Cowboy Jerry is going to show me around the ranch in the central valley area of California. Maybe I'll get to ride a horse!

I am enjoying my trip and wish you were here also!
